Drug peddlers nabbed

KATHMANDU: The Narcotic Drug Control Law Enforcement Unit, New Baneshwor, arrested two drug peddlers, including Andre Gurung alias Akash, who had been involved in smuggling drugs into Thailand, Hong Kong, and Japan, on Monday. The other arrested was identified

as Yog Gurung. The arrest came after Sukumaya Ghale, who was caught with hashish 15 days ago, revealed to the police during an interrogation that the two were involved in peddling

NSU flays arrests

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Students’ Union (NSU) said on Tuesday that it would not tolerate the government’s move of making false cases against students. NSU student activists Tekendra Kumbang and Buddha Bir Lama, arrested on Monday for chanting slogans against the arrest of a student leader and former general secretary of the NSU, Gagan Kumar Thapa, and Pradip Poudel, an NSU vice-president, were freed on Tuesday, but they were produced at the District Government Attorney’s Office and the Kathmandu District Admistration Office on the charge of resorting to vandalism. — HNS

TU VC gets memo

Kirtipur: Irate Tribhuvan University students on Tuesday submitted a memorandum to Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Govinda Prasad Sharma, demanding the resignation of principal and warden. In the memorandum submitted against the forceful eviction of Kanti Hostel on Sunday, they have asked the VC to legalise the hostel with the consent of all the student unions. Professor Sharma promised the students that the TU would discuss the matter with the principal and would solve the problem at the earliest. —HNS

58 donate blood

KATHMANDU: Fifty-eight persons donated blood at a programme organised by the Creative Hands, a non-governmental social organisation, here on Saturday, a press release issued by the organisation said.
