IN BRIEF
Ghode Jatra observed
KATHMANDU: The Ghode Jatra festival, which also marks the onset of Chaite Dashain, was celebrated at Tudikhel on Thursday. The festival is believed to have been started to celebrate the victory over a demon named Tundi, who dwelt in a meadow, which is known as Tundikhel. Tundi used to terrorise the people in the Valley and when he died people celebrated by riding on their horses. It is believed that the clamour of horses’ hooves on Ghode Jatra at Tundikhel keeps the demon’s sprit at bay as it still threatens to ruin the city. Ghode Jatra is a festival of big attraction for the people of the capital.
