Musalman, Kandel pull out of vice-presidential election race; Yadav, Pun to lock horns

KATHMANDU: Of four candidates earlier registered, two pulled out of the vice-presidential election process.

Now, UCPN-Maoist's Nanda Bahadur Pun and Nepali Congress' Amiya Kumar Yadav will run for the post in the election scheduled for Saturday.

Around two hours after filing their candidacies, independent lawmaker Athar Kamal Musalman and Nepal Pariwar Dal's Dayaram Kandel withdrew their candidacies.

It has been learned that Musalman will support NC candidate Yadav in the poll tomorrow while Kandel will support UCPN-M's Pun.

It is very likely that Pun will be elected to the post as he has garnered the support from the ruling coalition which holds majority seats in the Parliament.
