KATHMANDU, JANUARY 20
India on Monday handed over the first tranche of election-related assistance to Nepal as part of its support for the country's preparations for the upcoming elections.
At a ceremony held at the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Charge d'Affaires a.i. of the Embassy of India in Kathmandu, Dr. Rakesh Pandey, formally handed over more than 60 double-cab pickup vehicles and other supplies to Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal. The assistance was provided at the request of the Government of Nepal.
Home Minister Aryal thanked the Government and people of India for the support and said the assistance reflected the deep and comprehensive ties between the two neighbouring countries.
According to the Indian Embassy, India has been providing election-related support to Nepal since 2008, during which time it has gifted around 2,400 vehicles to various ministries and agencies, including the Election Commission.
For the forthcoming elections, India has committed to providing around 650 vehicles, which will be delivered in multiple batches over the coming weeks.
The embassy said the continued cooperation underscores the multi-sectoral development partnership between Nepal and India and symbolises the deep mutual trust and friendship shared by the two countries.
