Kathmandu, December 27:

The government of India has decided to provide grant assistance of nearly Rs 72 million for schools in Siraha, Morang and Mahottari districts.

On December 26, the embassy of India signed three separate memoranda of understanding with the concerned District Development Committees (DDC) and beneficiary organisations for providing the grant assistance stated a press release issued by the Indian Embassy today.

Over Rs 28 million will be provided for the construction of a school building and provision for furniture to Chandra Madhyamik Vidyalaya, Siraha. Likewise, over Rs 27 million will be provided for construction of women empowerment training centre building, boys’ hostel, girls’ hostel, school building and lab and library building to Machchhindra Higher Secondary School, Morang; and nearly Rs 16 million for construction of school building to Sukhdev Secondary School, Mahottari.

According to the release, the construction work in the schools with the Indian assistance will provide improved infrastructure to the schools and meet the need of increasing number of students to upgrade the educational facility.

The women empowerment training centre will ensure women empowerment and their participation in quality education. These projects will be implemented by the concerned DDCs, while separate oversight committees consisting of representatives from respective beneficiary organisation, district education officials and DDCs will oversee its effective and timely implementation.
