KATHMANDU, AUGUST 15
The new building of Shree Bishnudevi Secondary School in Chandragiri, constructed with assistance from the Indian government's Education Sector Reconstruction grant, was inaugurated on Tuesday.
The inauguration of the new school building took place today, coinciding with India's 77th Independence Day. The event was jointly inaugurated by Karun Bansal, First Secretary at the Embassy of India in Kathmandu; Ghanshyam Luitel, Ward Chairperson of Chandragiri Municipality; Indra Bahadur Subedi, Chairperson of the School Management Committee; and Dilliram Luitel, Project Director at the Central Level Project Implementation Unit (CLPIU) under the Ministry of Education, Science & Technology.
Representatives from Chandragiri Municipality, various Ministries and departments of Government of Nepal, Central Building Research Institute (CBRI) Roorkee, among others, were present at the event.
According to the Indian Embassy, the school building has been reconstructed at the cost of Rs 69 million as per earthquake-resilient reconstruction norms of Government of Nepal. The newly handed over infrastructure includes two blocks having 13 classrooms, administrative rooms, library, multipurpose hall, practical/lab rooms etc. The new seismic resistant infrastructure has children, gender and disable friendly features which will benefit more than 500 students and provide conducive teaching-learning environment.
This school is part of 71 educational institutions being built across eight districts of Nepal under Government of India's post-earthquake reconstruction grant of US $ 50 million. Out of these 71 educational facilities, construction of 65 schools have been completed and remaining 6 are about to complete shortly, embassy said.
"These projects are reflection of India's development partnership with Nepal and complements the efforts of Government of Nepal in augmenting infrastructure in the field of education," Indian embassy emphasized.
