Indian held with fake Nepali citizenship certificate from Kathmandu
KATHMANDU: Police said they have arrested an Indian national on the charge of acquiring dual citizenship certificates of Nepal and India.
A preliminary police investigation has revealed that Shyam Lal Sarawagi had acquired Nepali citizenship certificate (numbered 11351) on the basis of descent from the Kathmandu District Administration Office by producing fake documents.
Police said he was a resident of Bhajalapur of Gujarat state of India, but was residing at Indrachowk in KMC-27.
Acting on a tip-off, a special police team was deployed from the Metropolitan Crime Division, which arrested Sarawagi from Kuleshwor, KMC-14, on Tuesday.
Police said the 61-year-old also holds an Indian voter identity card.
Meanwhile, police has sent Sarawagi along with the photocopies of his Nepali citizenship certificate, Indian voter identity card, and Nepali voter identity card to the Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu, for further investigation under the Citizenship Act, 2006.
