Kathmandu, September 27
Hospitalised Gen Z protesters, instead of worrying about their well-being, are more concerned about their demands being met, according to Mahabir Pun, minister for education, science and technology of the interim government. He said so after visiting the trauma centre and meeting with those injured during the Gen Z movement.
Minister Pun visited the trauma centre today and enquired about the health condition of the injured. He said that their health condition was good and that no one had complained about the treatment. "I did not meet any patient who complained about not receiving proper medical treatment," he said.
He added that it is impossible to predict what will happen to the directly elected executive given its current state and that political circumstances could change at any time.
"The demands of the patients are those put forth during the Gen Z movement," he added.
The September 8 and 9 Gen Z movement resulted in hundreds of injuries and 75 fatalities. The injured are still receiving treatment at various hospitals.
According to the most recent data, more than 2,100 people sustained injuries during the protests. According to Minister Pun, all of the Gen Z patients receiving treatment at the trauma centre are safe, with the exception of one who is in the intensive care unit (ICU). Speaking with mediapersons, injured Gen Z have been reiterating their demands while still bed-ridden.
Injured Madan Karki stated, "We did not form the government just to hold elections. We did not sacrifice our lives to hold the election. This government has been formed on the blood of martyrs. It must meet all of our demands, including a directly-elected executive, an investigation into all corruption cases since 1989 and the nationalisation of all wealth."
"We have been in the hospital for 18 days. The government must arrest those who showered bullets on us," said another injured, Mukesh Awasthi. "They ordered the shooting, which led to the killings of numerous youth and injured many, many more. We demand accountability. Every guilty person, whether at the top or at the bottom, must be imprisoned."
Abhishek Shrestha, who is also undergoing treatment, stated, "The entire country is in deep pain. A total of 75 people were killed. This must not be taken lightly. The government must arrest all of the perpetrators and address Gen Z demands."
