Intellectual council’s plea

Nepal intellectual council has said the five agitating political parties, students affiliated to them and other intellectuals should ponder peace, security, good governance and free and fair elections, the prime need of the Nepali people at present.

A press release issued after a political department meeting of the council here today said the leaders of the political parties have taken undue advantage of corruption, injustice, uncertainty, unrest, unemployment and terror prevailing in the country for tfulfiling their selfish aims.

The council urged the leaders to stop this practice.

The political department of the council has, in the same press release, stated nationalism should be made the meeting point for resolving all problems and appealed to the King, the leadersand the common people to make efforts to bring the Maoists into the national mainstream, hold elections, ensure the rule of the people and reinstate parliament.

The council said belittling the monarchy, which is a respected institution, should

be stopped.
