Irate activists demand resignation of Home Min, IGP

KATHMANDU: Activists demanding Justice for Nirmala staged a demonstration in front of the south gate of country's administrative centre, Singha Durbar, today.

The agitated activists demanded resignation of Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa and Inspector General of Police Sarbendra Khanal on grounds of home administration's failure to identify Nirmala Panta's culprit.

On Wednesday, Home Minister Thapa had remarked that the rape and murder case of Nirmala Panta had been 'unnecessarily politicised'.

Slight clash ensued between police and activists for a brief while.

Meanwhile, the student wings of ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) have submitted a memorandum to the Home Minister today demanding that the Inspector General of Police Sarbendra Khanal be sacked.

Over 70 days have passed since the rape and murder of 13-year-old Nirmala Panta of Bhimdattanagar Muncipality. Over the period, many protests have been held demanding justice for the girl. Botched police investigations since day-one have further complicated the already curious case as people wonder- Who Killed Nirmala?
