Janai purnima: Kumbeshwore draws crowd

Lalitpur, August 19:

Thousands of devotees visited Sarveshwore Mahadev in Kumbeshwore, Patan, today to mark the Janai Purnima. On this day, people put on rakshyabhandhan (coloured sacred threads) on their wrists. The Brahmins and the Chhetris also put on janai (sacred threads) on their bodies. Kwati — a soup prepared by cooking beans — is also served on this day. Kwati is believed to cure stomach ailments. Frogs are worshipped and fed Kwati, rice, and other delicacies on this day. This ritual is called Byan Ja Nakegu, which means ‘feeding the frog’.
