KATHMANDU, JULY 25

Japanese Ambassador to Nepal, Maeda Toru, hosted a send-off ceremony today at his official residence in Tahachal for 22 Nepali government officials departing for Japan under the Human Resource Development Scholarship (JDS) program.

The cohort includes 20 master's and two PhD candidates who will begin their studies at Japanese universities next month. The JDS program, funded by the Government of Japan, supports Nepali officials in acquiring advanced degrees to contribute to Nepal's socio-economic development and policy-making upon their return.

Ambassador Maeda congratulated the fellows and emphasized the importance of equipping policymakers with new skills and knowledge in line with Nepal's development needs. He also expressed hope that the JDS initiative would further strengthen the longstanding Japan-Nepal ties, especially as the two countries approach the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2026.
