KATHMANDU, MAY 5

The visiting Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, Kamikawa Yoko, paid a courtesy call on President Ramchandra Paudel at the President's House in Shital Niwas today.

On the occasion, President Paudel expressed Nepal's deep concern for protecting the Himalayas and water sources to preserve the Earth.

He urged carbon-emitting developed nations to become more sensitive to reducing the impacts of climate change, as quoted by the President's press advisor Kiran Poharel.

Highlighting the close cultural ties between Nepal and Japan since the dissemination of Gautam Buddha's teachings, known as the Light of Asia, President Paudel emphasized the longstanding trouble-free relations between the two countries.

He noted Nepal's consistent reception of goodwill from Japan and regarded Japan as an important and trustworthy partner in Nepal's socioeconomic development. The President expressed confidence in further expanding cooperation and assistance between Nepal and Japan.

Furthermore, he stressed the importance of enhancing people-to-people relations and anticipated an increase in Japanese tourists visiting Nepal due to the religious, cultural proximity, and natural beauty of the country.

During the meeting, Japanese Minister Yoko expressed Japan's concern about the impacts of climate change and emphasized the need for collaboration to protect the Himalayas of Nepal and other countries. She advocated for a significant technological revolution in the use of alternative energy.

Additionally, the Japanese Minister assured that Japan would extend every possible support to Nepal, recognizing Nepal's development and stability as crucial for the region.
