Jayatu Sanskritam Mahasabha (JSM) today said that though the monarchy had a very glorious past, it now has lost significance as "the monarch continues his grip over the state-power followed by continuous conflicts".

"It is very sad to know that the monarch, instead of giving way to solve the present crisis, has engaged in creating a split among people and democratic forces," said Ramesh Sharma, president of the JSM at a press conference organised here today.

"Significance of any man-made institution remains till it delivers honest and committed contribution to the people. We have to accept the insignificance of any such institution for the greater benefit of the nation and its people," Sharma added. According to him, there is no alternative to the democratic republican set up.
