Khanal warns of mishap if NC, UML can't mend ties

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML senior leader and former Prime Minister Jhala Nath Khanal warned that the nation would meet with a disaster if the UML and the main opposition party Nepali Congress could not mend ties.

Terming the end of NC-UML coalition a bad luck, Khanal said there was no any alternative to the two largest parties working together to tackle the current crisis of the nation.

The UML leader was speaking with a team of Reporters' Club in the Capital on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Khanal suggested that parties needed to rethink on the model of federal restructuring of the nation.

He also went on to suggest that the existing five Development Regions could be turned into five provinces.

Khanal stated that the ongoing border blockade would not end soon and asked the government to take effective measures to ease life of people.

"If the blockage prolongs," the leader said, "The people should be made ready (to face it)… This is the responsibility of the government."

The former premier claimed that the border obstructions violated various international treaties.
