Kathmandu, April 4:

The Khwopa Engineering College (KEC) affiliated with Purbanchal University (PU), which was closed for the past 10 days, has decided to resume classes from Thursday.

Accusing the college administration of failing to provide security, the students had demanded that they be transferred to other colleges.

The college decided to resume classes after providing transfer to all those who wanted to be transferred to other colleges.

According to Dhruba Raj Ghimire, a third year student of Civil Engineering, the college administration refused to punish the locals who had manhandled them. “We had demanded action against the guilty but the college wants to protect them.”

Prem Suwal, president of the KEC Management Committee, said though the students dropped all other demands, they refused to relent on their demand for transfer to other colleges.

Meanwhile, the students have been collecting signatures to submit to the contact office of Purbanchal University at Sinamangal. “We have collected signatures of over 440 students, who are willing to leave the college and enroll in other colleges,” Ghimire said.
