'Killer driver' jailed for trial
KATHMANDU: Kathmandu District Court has sent Biplab Man Singh Dangol, the car driver who mowed down six pedestrians on August 6, to jail in order to proceed with the case.
A single bench of judge Lekha Nath Ghimire passed the decision yesterday. Citing Number 118(2) of the Court Procedure chapter of the Muluki Ain, the judge sent to him jail. The bench observed that the evidence was sufficient to sentence him to jail during the trial in a vehicular homicide case.
Biplab had killed six persons in Bhotahiti -- a Nepali national and five Indian citizens --when he was driving the car late night after his birthday party. The government prosecuted him as per the Section 161 (1) of Vehicle and Transport Management Act, 1992 demanding life sentence to him for the offence.
Section 161(1) of the Act has defined vehicular homicide as a crime and fixed life sentence for one convicted in such offence.
