KATHMANDU, APRIL 13

Kathmandu Metropolitan City has asked community schools within the metropolis not to charge any fee from students.

Yesterday, writing a letter to all community schools, following the rules of the education register, KMC instructed them not to charge any fee from primary and lower secondary students. In addition, the metropolis has also informed that the fee mentioned in 146(1) cannot be charged from students who are studying at the secondary level, according to the rule.

Similarly, KMC has shown concern about some people misusing the provision that any donation, gift, or support given by a parent to a community school can be taken by schools. As per subsection (a) of section 16 (d) of the Education Act, 1971 (with amendments), Kathmandu Metropolitan City directed not to charge fees from students and strictly prohibited taking anything from parents or students The metropolis has warned that strict action will be taken if money is taken against the will of the parents in the name of cooperation or collaboration.

It is reported that many community schools in the country are charging fees from students for years. Kathmandu Metropolitan City's decision to not collect fees from students will benefit those who are unable to pay for education.
