KMC eyeing EU funds
Kathmandu, April 6:
The Urban Development Department of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) is preparing proposals to submit to the Asia Pro-Eco Programme of the European Union for completion of its three different projects.
The department is working on proposals for the construction of parking lots at Tundikhel-Mahankalsthan, Ratnapark and Rani Pokhari areas, green belt along river banks, management of sewerage networks and improvement of mechanical workshops.
According to Devendra Dongol, chief of the Urban Development Department, at least two European cities should agree to work in coordination with the KMC for the approval of the project.
“The project manager (European Activities) of Ancona City of Italy, Piero Remitti, will arrive here on the third week of April to visit the project site,” he said.
Dongol said the Asia Pro-Eco Progamme will provide 8 million Euro to 18 Asian cities as grant.
“We are very much hopeful that our proposals will be accepted,” he said. He also said that the honorary consulate general at the Royal Nepalese Consulate office at Stuttgart of Germany Ann Katrin Bauknecht has helped KMC to reach to this stage.
She has been supporting for the development of the Kathmandu valley from Germany. After the approval of the proposals KMC will maintain complete greenery on both the northern and southern sides of the Kalimati bridge where a small scale sewerage treatment plant will be established.
Due to its limited resources KMC has been working in close coordination with donor agencies and EU cities focusing urban planning, transportation, environment and heritage conservation since last year.
