KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 9

Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balendra Shah 'Balen' has called on the Gen Z protesters to exercise restraint following the resignation of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.

In a Facebook post, Mayor Shah acknowledged that the ongoing demonstrations are "entirely a Gen Z movement" and emphasized that the resignation of the government has already been secured.

"Dear Gen Z, your demand for the resignation of the government has been met. Now it is time to remain restrained," he wrote.

The mayor also warned against further damage to public and private property, stating, "The loss of the country's wealth is, in reality, a loss to our own property. It is now essential that we all act with restraint."

Shah highlighted the responsibility of the younger generation in shaping Nepal's future leadership and urged them to be ready to engage constructively.

He also mentioned the possibility of talks with the Chief of Army Staff, adding, "But remember - such dialogue should take place only after the dissolution of Parliament."

The message comes amid nationwide protests led by Gen Z youths demanding accountability over corruption, restrictions on freedoms, and police violence, which have claimed lives and caused significant disruptions across the country.
