KMC passes Rs 1.36b budget

Kathmandu, October 29:

The municipal council meeting of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) held here recently

passed a budget of Rs 1.36 billion for the fiscal year 2006/07.

The meeting held on October 19 has allocated 78.6 per cent of the total budget for development of infrastructure, 9.97 per cent for administrative expenses, 8.39 per cent for salary, wages and facilities and 3.04 per cent for capital expenses.

Last year the KMC had spent Rs 571,929,889 while the total income was Rs 712,679,670.

Chief executive officer of KMC Dinesh Thapaliya said the budget has prioritised people’s participation.

“A sum of around Rs 25 crore has been allocated for the construction of inner roads and drainage system,” he said adding that the KMC has given topmost priority to sanitary works in this year’s budget. The council also passed programmes for institutional reforms.
