Koirala recuperating: docs

KATHMANDU: The health of Nepali Congress President and former Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala is improving, according to attending doctors.

Koirala was admitted to Shahid Gangalal National Heart Centre in Bansbari Sunday evening after his health deteriorated. Hospital sources said Koirala would be discharged in a couple of days.

Koirala, 87, is undergoing treatment to maintain an adequate level of haemoglobin, hospital sources said. Koirala, who is suffering from anaemia, was given two pints of blood.

Attending doctor Man Bahadur KC said Koirala could talk normally today following the improvement in his health. Today he took food himself. The hospital, in a press statement, said that his health has improved.

Koirala was rushed to hospital after he complained of uneasiness and his personal doctors found the level of haemoglobin low. He has lung infection and anaemia, besides asthma. Koirala is suffering from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, which is a respiratory problem.

He had been shifted to his daughter’s residence in Mandikhatar on Friday. Koirala has been given round-the-clock oxygen for two weeks now.
