Lalitpur DPHO to run anti-filariasis campaign
Lalitpur, March 14
The District Health Office, Lalitpur has announced that it will operate the eighth Mass Drug Administration Campaign 2017 against filariasis in 41 VDCs of Lalitpur on March 18, 19, and 20.
Organising a press meet today, lab technician assistant Shankar Paudel informed that Lalitpur is the only district in the Valley that remains to be free of filariasis, but the campaign has covered 58 per cent of the population, as compared to 45 per cent in Bhaktapur and Kathmandu.
“The campaign has larger coverage in rural areas as compared to urban areas. It is easier to convince the people of rural areas to take medicine in relation to the people in urban areas,” he said.
He added, “We have already sent the medicine to all places, and provided orientation and training to health assistants and volunteers for the campaign.”
Paudel also informed that nearly 685 patients of filariasis in Lalitpur will be given hydrocele surgeries in Patan Hospital and BP Memorial Hospital, Bharatpur.
Paudel said children under two years of age, pregnant women, new mothers who have given birth less than seven days before, epilepsy patients, diabetics, cancer patients, and other severely sick people should not be allowed to take the medicines against filariasis.
