Lawmakers air views on local body restructuring among other issues at House
KATHMANDU: Lawmakers drew attention of the government on different issues including the structure of local bodies and relief to the natural disaster victims at the Legislature Parliament meeting on Sunday.
The lawmakers also highlighted issues relating to Nepal-India relations and Kathmandu-Tarai fast-track, while speaking during the special hour at the Parliamentary meeting today.
Taraman Gurung of the Nepali Congress demanded that the local bodies should be delineated on the basis of geographic territory, rather than the population. He added that the budget should be allocated only to necessary projects.
Gyanu Kumari Chantyal of the NC drew the attention of the government towards ensuring relief and compensation to the flood victims in Baglung district.
Meanwhile, speaking at the Parliament, the CPN Maoist Centre lawmaker Cham Bahadur Gurung called for immediate compensation for families of the victims of the recent Fishtail Air helicopter crash. Kamala Dong of the same party demanded action against the murderer of one Ajit Dhakal for allegedly doing an inter-caste marriage in Kavre district.
The main opposition CPN-UML's Keshav Prasad Badal suggested the present government not to devalue the important decisions taken by the previous KP Sharma Oli-led government.
Brijesh Kumar Gupta of the Tarai Madhes Democratic Party focused on the need of expansion of branches of the Transport Management Office in all the districts.
In the meeting, Prem Suwal of Nepal Workers and Peasants Party said that the tendency of collecting huge amount in the name of medical services should be checked.
