Lawmakers commit to improving draft of Children's Bill
KATHMANDU: Members of the Women, Children, Senior Citizens and Social Welfare Committee and the Human Rights and Social Justice Committee of the Parliament have said they would make revisions on the draft of Children's Bill before tabling it at the House.
Speaking at an interaction organised by the Children and Women in Social Service and Human Rights (CWISH) in Kathmandu today, the lawmakers said they would address gaps in the draft as identified by the stakeholders and make the law effective enough to protect and promote child rights.
The Ministry of Children, Women and Social Welfare has recently prepared the draft and distributed it among stakeholders for discussions.
Earlier, human rights activist and former member of the National Human Rights Commission Gauri Pradhan had presented a paper during the interaction, recommending various actions to improve provisions proposed in the draft.
Pradhan had stressed assurance mechanisms at local, provincial and federal levels to implement child rights provisions and sufficient legal instruments for the same.
