Lawmakers demand nationwide public holiday on Gaijatra
KATHMANDU: Lawmakers speaking at the Legislature-Parliament meeting today demanded that a public holiday be declared on the day of the Hindu festival Gaijatra from next year to be applicable across Nepal.
Currently, the government gives holiday in the Kathmandu Valley only on the day of annual festival.
Expressing their views during the zero hour today, they also drew the attention of government to save areas like Bajhang and Chainpur from being eroded by the Seti River.
Likewise, they also drew the attention of government to 12 VDCs of Banke district which are at the risk of being eroded and demanded that increasing road accidents be controlled, violence against women in Parbat be curbed and viral fever spreading across the country be contained at the earliest.
Lawmakers including Keshari Gharti Magar, Keshab Prasad Badal, Kedar Prasad Sanjel, Kanta Bhattarai, Kalpana Sharma Joshi, Kamala Kumari, Devraj Bhar and Akhilal Okheda delivered their views during the zero hour of the meeting today.
