Lawmakers stress priority to education

KATHMANDU: Members of Parliament today stressed the need to give priority to education in the country for the development of each citizen.

Speaking at an interaction organised jointly by Ministry of Education, UNESCO office in Kathmandu, UNICEF and National Campaign for Education here in Kathmandu, today, MP Karna Bahadur Thapa said every citizen should have the opportunity to avail of personal development to contribute to development of country.

He said, “Only education can provide such opportunity to citizens, therefore the state should give priority to education.” MP Ganeshman Gurung said the debate on education in federalism should be discussed with all the concerned on a regular basis.

NCE, in association with government and non-government organisations organised the discussion with the concerned officials, experts and policy makers to ensure inclusiveness, equitable and quality education and lifelong learning at a time when Sustainable Development Goals for the coming 15-years were being drafted. Tapa Raj Pant, National Programme Officer, UNESCO office in Kathmandu today said that Sustainable Development Goals for the coming 15 years were being prepared and Nepal government had already expressed commitment to the campaign.

He said, “Education should be given priority and made accessible to the general public.”
