Laws inconsistent with statute to be amended

The government has initiated the process of amending laws and regulations, which are inconsistent with the newly adopted constitution.
Chief Secretary Som Lal Subedi today said as many as 192 laws and rules were already in the process of amendment. “The statutory committee has already endorsed the drafts of amendments and forwarded them to the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs,” he said at a press meeting.
According to him, all ministries, departments and government agencies have been asked to come up with recommendations for effective implementation of the new constitution. He also said that
civil servants would be integrated in local, federal, central government offices as envisioned in articles 285 and 302 of the new constitution.
“Our immediate focus is on bridging the gap between existing laws and the new constitution,” Subedi said.He also made public the programmes being implemented and planned by the government for coming months and years.
