LSMC to conserve old houses

Lalitpur, May 22:

Lalitpur Sub-Metropolitan City (LSMC) is all set to preserve traditional residential buildings and maintain its original structure in the protected monument zone in the Patan Durbar Square Area.

Executive officer of the LSMC Prem Raj Joshi said the Department of Archaeology and the LSMC would set up a fund to support the owners to preserve and renovate the traditional houses.

“The LSMC has already allocated Rs 2 million, and the Department of Archaeology will contribute to the fund.”

The Patan Durbar Square Area which spreads over 154.2 acres of land already has 19 houses preserved.

“We have started the census of the traditional houses in the area so that we can formulate a plan of action accordingly,” Joshi said.

He further added that the census would be followed by formulation of the guidelines.
