Lalitpur, May 20:

The ongoing Rato Machhindranath jatra in Patan has severely affected the Lalitpur sub-Metropolitan City’s (LMC) garbage collection schedule as employees find it difficult to push garbage vehicles along the roads due to the festivities. According to Pradeep Amatya, environmental engineer at LMC Environment and Sanitation Section, the Machhindranath chariot, which is kept at Lagan-khel, has been obstructing traffic, which has affected the route of garbage vehicles that follow main streets from Gwarko to Kupondole, and Lagankhel to Pulchowk. He said, “We are collecting only 35 loads of garbage instead of 55.” Amatya said that there is relatively more garbage during festivities and this has caused inconvenience to residents of Alok Hiti and Chayabahal. The schedule has also been affected as many employees are on leave to celebrate the jatra.
