Major parties reaffirm their pledge for statute by mid-August

KATHMANDU: Signatory parties of the 16-point agreement on Saturday reaffirmed that they are committed to promulgate the new constitution by August 17, the final day of current Nepali month Shrawan.

Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, UCPN-Maoist and Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum-Democratic held a meeting at the Prime Minster's residence in Baluwatar this evening to discuss how the target can be made possible.

Earlier this morning, the party leaders had held a meeting with Constituent Assembly Chairman Subas Chandra Nembang and asked the latter to prepare a calendar with an aim to meet the target.

It has been learnt that the top leaders will hold a meeting again tomorrow morning to further discuss the calendar as well as how suggestions by public can be incorporated in the statute.

"As we are yet to discuss many issues regarding the constitution promulgation," MJF-D Chairman Bijay Kumar Gachhadar told mediapersons after the meeting, "We will sit again at 8:30 am tomorrow for further discussion."
