KATHMANDU, JANUARY 10

Mammogram, a device used for screening breast cancer, has recently been put into operation at Bir Hospital.

This state-of-the-art equipment marks the first installation of its kind in the country, according to Dr. Santosh Poudel, the Director of the Hospital.

Dr. Poudel explained that the equipment is designed to detect early signs of breast cancer in women over 40 years of age. Currently, the service sees an average usage of three to four women per day at the hospital.

The Hospital administration has set the service charge for mammography screening at Rs 1,500 per person.

Dr. Arun Shahi, a senior oncologist, highlighted the significance of timely screening for breast cancer, as it is the second most common cancer among women in Nepal.
