Man held from Kirtipur for killing mother
Kathmandu, October 6
Police today arrested a man for allegedly murdering his elderly mother from Gurung Tole, Kirtipur Municipality-10.
According to police, Buddhi Bahadur Gurung, 46, hit his 73-year-old mother Shanta Gurung in the head last night when the victim was asleep in her room. An official said she had died on the spot.
Buddhi Bahadur has conceded to killing his mother and told the police that he did this to ‘relieve her from physical suffering’. Police had recovered Shanta’s body in disfigured state due to the impact of repeated attacks with the iron mortar.
An official at the Metropolitan Police Circle, Kirtipur, said Buddhi Bahadur, his mother Shanta and maternal aunt (guest) had gone to bed separately last night. “Buddhi Bahadur got up in the midnight, picked up the iron mortar from the kitchen and went to his mother’s room with an intention to kill her,” the official informed.
During interrogation with his maternal aunt, she told police that Buddhi Bahadur was ‘mentally unsound’ and was taking antipsychotic drugs. Police said they had launched further investigation into the incident. Meanwhile, Kathmandu District Court has remanded Buddhi Bahadur to seven-day judicial custody to proceed with murder charge.
