Maoist not to lead national govt

KATHMANDU: Chairman of the main opposition party UCPN Maoist Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' today reaffirmed his stance that he would not provide his leadership to the government even if civilian supremacy was restored in the country.

The main opposition party -- UCPN -- has been reiterating that it will form a national government soon. However, Prachanda today said the senior leaders would refrain from providing the leadership to the government. He was addressing a central committee meeting of its controversial youth wing - Young Communist League today.

“YCL is the army of the 21st century and it should protect the nation and destroy anti-revolutionary forces,” he told a gathering of YCL men. He also regretted that that the party's activities were overshadowed when the main leadership joined the government earlier.

"Youths having the experience of war should lead the ongoing movement to establish a federal republic," Chandra Bahadur Thapa 'Sagar', the YCL Newa State Committee in-charge quoted Dahal as saying.

Sagar also said Dahal had urged YCL to identify a new role for themselves like the youths had done during the time of Mao in China.

YCL president Ganesh Man Pun 'Rashmi' said vice-chairmen Mohan Baidhya 'Kiran' and Dr Baburam Bhattarai and general secretary Ram Bahadur Thapa 'Badal' today trained the YCL central committee members at the premises of Khanna Garment in Gwarko. Pun said the CC would discuss its agendas on Wednesday.

The four top leaders are scheduled to train the central committee meeting of its women's wing All Nepal Women's Association-Revolutionary.

Also, the party's High-level Investigation Commission led by senior vice-chairman Mohan Baidhya is scheduled to meet on tomorrow. The commission had provided a deadline to submit complaints by last Monday.
