Kathmandu, May 11:

Victims of Maoist atrocities today staged a sit-in in front of the American embassy here, demanding that the mission urge the government to look into their problems.

They also handed over a memorandum to the embassy.

Coordinator of the National Struggle Committee of the Victims of Maoist Atrocities, Bhojraj Timilsina, said they would keep on knocking at the doors of the international community to make their voices heard.

“At a time when our government is not ready to listen to us, we are left with one option, that is to knock at the doors of the neighbours,” he said.

He said the victims will stage a sit-in in front of the United Nations on May 14 and the Office of the High Commission for Human Rights on May 21. “This is just the beginning, we may have to launch stronger protest programmes in the future,” he added. About 200 Maoist victims are putting up in makeshift camps at Tinkune since February 7 and holding protest programmes in the capital.
