Maoists condemn blast in City office

Kathmandu, May 30:

The CPN-Maoist today condemned the bombing of its Buddhanagar-based central office last night.

It said the blast was carried out by “reactionary elements that do not want constituent assembly elections to he held.”

Two socket bombs were hurled at the building and while one of them went off, shattering window panes, another one was defused by security personnel.

Office secretary of the Joint Revolutionary People’s Council Nepal, Keshav Nepal, claimed the attack was carried out by royalists who want to scuttle the assembly elections.

He said the incident was part of a series of attacks on the party for its republic call. He added that such attacks were carried out by regressive elements in the past in Nepalgunj and Gaur.

Meanwhile, an informal meeting of the Maoists held at the central office in the presence of chairman Prachanda formed a committee that would investigate the incident. The findings of the panel would be made public.
