KATHMANDU, JULY 3

Water supply from the Melamchi Drinking Water Project to Kathmandu Valley has been suspended temporarily after floodwaters turned the project's intake source muddy, officials said on Friday.

According to Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited (KUKL), water from Melamchi has been halted because excessive turbidity has complicated the treatment process at the Sundarijal Water Treatment Plant.

KUKL spokesperson Bir Bahadur Chand said water distribution would resume under the regular schedule once the water quality improves and treatment operations can safely restart.

Officials warned that continued rainfall could delay the restoration of Melamchi water supply to the Valley.
