Men to hold march calling for end to gender-based violence

Kathmandu, March 6

Around 300 young men will march through Lalitpur to call for an end to all forms of violence against women and girls on March 8.

The campaign titled “Men’s March! Men against Violence against Women and Girls” is the second edition of the campaign for gender equality. The event will be organised to mark the International Women’s Day, according to Yuwalaya, the organiser.

According to a statement issued by Yuwalaya today, the participants will gather at the Namuna Machhindra Higher Secondary School of Lalitpur and march peacefully to Adarsha Kanya Niketan of Mangalbazaar carrying placards and torch lights. The march will converge into a corner meeting at the school.

The concluding programme will also include discussions on men’s role in eliminating violence against women and girls, documentary show and cultural performances seeking solidarity commitments from men, according to Yuwalaya president Sanjog Thakuri.

Through this campaign, Yuwalaya aims to create an opportunity for men to come together to discuss, realise and internalise their role in reducing violence against women and girls.

This is a one of its kind campaign to be organised in Nepal and the Yuwalaya aims to continue it every year.
