Minister Rai for effective media monitoring
KATHMANDU: Minister for Information and Communications Technology Sher Dhan Rai has noted the need of strict monitoring on media, stating that some media are publishing or broadcasting contents against the stipulated code of conduct.
Speaking at an interaction following the inspection of the office of Press Council Nepal at Sanchargram in the Capital on Monday, Minister Rai said that the PCN as a regulatory body should strictly monitor the media content as some of the media are deliberately disseminating contents jeopardising existing social goodwill going against the Constitution.
Minister Rai informed that discussions are being held with stakeholders to further manage online media as a part of the mass media.
On a different note, Minister Rai urged the Madhes-centric parties to change the form of their agitation and move ahead based on dialogues and consensus considering the complicated situation now.
Speaking on the occasion, President of Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) Mahendra Bista stressed that the government should regulate the media not to control and protect its freedom.
PCN Chairperson Borna Bahadur Karki said that the media should be developed as a reliable and accountable source of information by disclosing its investment in a transparent manner.
