Ministry departments in for a shuffle

Kathmandu, September 5:

Some “unexpected” changes are in the offing in the various departments of the Ministry of Physical Planning and Works.

A post of a general manager is being created in the Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited (KUKL). “Hari Dhakal, a Maoist sympathiser, is most likely to get the post. I have heard that the post itself is being created for him,” a source said. Dhakal was recently nominated as the technical manager of the KUKL and is likely to be promoted again.

Recently, Hariram Koirala was appointed the executive director of the Melamchi Water Supply Project. While Koirala joined office today, the former executive director, Suman Sharma, is being pulled back to the ministry “without a reason,” the source added.

Dr Laxmi Devkota has been appointed as the chairman of the Board of Directors at the Nepal Water Supply Corporation. Deputy general manager of the NWSC, Madan Sharnkar Shrestha, has quit recently.

Meanwhile, two ADB officials today visited the office of KUKL to research on the company’s strength.
