MoHP refers 3 hospitals for NAMS’ affiliation
Kathmandu, July 29:
The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) has recommended three hospitals as affiliated hospitals of the National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS) rather than Bir Hospital as the only constituent hospital.
The Health Ministry has already forwarded the bill regarding NAMS to the cabinet last week. As per the rule, the ordinance of NAMS has to be renewed every six months and the duration of the ordinance has already expired on June 6. With the revival of house, the bill on NAMS has to be passed by the cabinet.
Dr Nirakar Man Shrestha, chief specialist of MoHP, told this daily the health ministry, too, proposed the affiliation to three hospitals Bir Hospital, Kanti Hospital and Indra Rajya Laxmi Maternity Hospital so that there would be uniformity in the salaries of teachers teaching in NAMS.
“Only those doctors will be eligible to teach in NAMS who have passed the Public Service Commission examination,” said Dr Shrestha, adding: “The competition is open to all the eligible doctors throughout the nation.”
The health ministry proposal has come as per the recommendation of 15-member team headed by Dr Nirakar Man Shrestha which had representatives from various hospitals, Nepal Medical Council, Education Ministry and representatives of Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs. The committee was formed to solve the problems of NAMS.
