MoLD issues guidelines on local body grants

LALITPUR: The Ministry of Local Development (MoLD) has issued guidelines on effective implementation of the block grants allocated for the community development programmes in the local bodies.

They are Training Grants Operation Directive - 2066 BS for community organisations working for the disadvantaged classes; Guideline for Information, Education and Communication (IEC) activities to Local Bodies-2066BS; Operational Manual Environment, Local Governance and Community Development Programme (LGCDP) and Safeguard Measures Guideline-2066BS; and Dalit Janajati Coordination Committee Guideline -2066BS.

According to officials at the MoLD, Rs 65,000 and Rs 250,000 will be given to each district development committee and municipality under IEC and OME respectively. There are 75 DDCs and 58 municipalities across the country. Amrit Lamsal of LGCDP said these guidelines would enforce the proper and effective implementation of the block grants allocated for the community programmes in the local bodies. “The intended beneficiaries of the programme are disadvantaged, marginalised and backward people,” he added.

Lamsal further said different programmes are already in the pipeline to ameliorate the situation facing women, disadvantaged and marginalised.
