Mukherjee lays foundation stone

Kathmandu, July 10:

Indian ambassador to Nepal Shiv Shankar Mukherjee today laid the foundation stone for a new Maternity Centre at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH).

A press release issue by the embassy of India said the centre is being constructed with a grant assistance of Rs 29.7 million from the Indian government.

The new double storied structure will have facilities such as a 16-bed maternity ward, delivery rooms, laboratory, examination and consultation rooms, preparation rooms and an emergency ward.

The statement said that the centre would ease pressure on the hospital in delivering good maternity and child health care services.

Quoting the envoy, the statement said: “The new centre would enable TUTH to further raise the quality of medical care it offers to the people of Kathmandu and other places in Nepal.” The centre is the ninth infrastructure project undertaken in Kathmandu in recent years with aid from the Indian government.
