Municipalities ‘not heeding’ DCC’s orders

Kathmandu, September 23

District Coordination Committee, Bhaktapur, has stated that local governments of Bhaktapur were not heeding DCC’s orders and directives.

According to Bhaktapur DCC vice-chair Sarita Kuwar, municipalities of Bhaktapur are not coordinating with DCC and defying DCC officials’ orders.

During a programme organised here today, Kuwar shared that Bhaktapur Municipality and Madhyapur Thimi Municipality had been continuously disobeying DCC’ orders.

Kunwar stated that the two municipalities didn’t invite DDC officials to their programmes and also didn’t allow DCC officials to monitor their activities.

“Today chairman of DCC went to Hetauda to present progress report of local governments of Bhaktapur. But, we have not received progress report of Bhaktapur Municipality,” she said.

Kunwar added that the DCC was facing difficulty in maintaining good relations with government staffers and elected local governments.

Civil society representative Som Sharma Bajgain said after the power was handed over to local levels, municipalities of Bhaktapur had started ignoring administrative bodies of the district.

Speaking at the programme, Deputy Mayor of Suryabinayak Municipality Juna Basnet, however, said  the municipality was coordinating with DCC in every way possible.
