ANWA forms panel
KATHMANDU: All Nepal Women’s Association (ANWA), affiliated with the CPN-UML on Saturday formed a 173-member Sixth General Convention Organising Committee under the coordination of Bidhya Bhandari, who is also the Defence Minister. Members of the dissolved central committee, the advisory committee and all district chairpersons are members of the committee. Tulasa Dahal, office secretary of the association, said a meeting of the organising committee slated for February 5-7 next year would decide the date and venue of the convention. The committee also passed a resolution condemning the attack on association’s Salyan District Committee Chairperson Shanta Hamal by the YCL and the assault on journalist Tika Bista. The committee demanded strong action against the policemen accused of raping co-worker Suntali Dhami in Achham a few months ago.
Jewellery, valuables stolen
KATHMANDU: Nineteen tolas (23.3 grams) of gold jewellery and other valuables were stolen from the capital in two separate incidents on Friday night, police said. An unidentified gang burgled a house in the capital belonging to Chhiring Sherpa of Kapan Village Development Committee- 2 and robbed 11 tolas of gold jewellry. The gang of 10 also managed to flee the scene with Rs 20,000 in cash and three mobile phone sets and a digital camera. The khukuri-wielding robbers had raided the house, taking the entire family members hostage. Meanwhile, the gang robbed eight tolas of gold jewellry, wrist watches, mobile phone sets and digital cameras from the house of Sher Bahadur Magar in the same locality, police said.
