NHRC casts doubts
KATHMANDU: The National Human Rights Commission on Thursday cast doubts on the effectiveness of the government’s pre-election security arrangements, citing incidents of arson, vandalism and clash in some districts likes Dolakha, Gorkha, Rukum, Kalikot, Tanahun, Syangja, Chitwan and Dhading districts.
It said one person was killed in a violent clash between political activists in Dolakha on Tuesday. Issuing a press release, the constitutional rights body said it was deeply saddened by the death and urged the government to launch a fact-finding investigation into the incident.
“The report of violence is a testimony that security arrangements are yet to be dependable. It is highly crucial for the government and political parties to be more serious to prevent the occurrence of such incidents,” read the release. The NHRC also stressed effective role of security agencies to ensure fool-proof security during the Election Day.
