NHRC tells political parties to promote human rights

Kathmandu, October 15

The National Human Rights Commission today issued a press release urging political parties to incorporate human rights issues in their election manifesto.

The NHRC said the state had the responsibility to promote and protect human rights as it has signed 41 conventions related to human rights, pledging to implement the provisions of those conventions as domestic laws.

The rights body urged the political parties to give due importance to human rights and incorporate issues of human rights in the election manifesto.

The national human rights body also said that the constitution had guaranteed citizens’ economic, social, cultural, civil and political rights.
