NC hails GPK's recommendation for Nobel
KATHMANDU: A Nepali Congress Central Committee meeting held at its central office in Sanepa today thanked the Cabinet for recommending its president Girija Prasad Koirala for the Nobel Peace Prize-2010.
NC spokesperson Arjun Narsingh KC said the meeting also decided to disburse its active membership as per the decision of the respective district working committees. The dispute over the list of unified executive committees at the districts would be resolved after verifying their presence at the 11th general convention of both the parties, he added. The decisions came after several districts have demanded more forms for the active membership of the party and the district leaders complained that many of them were omitted from the list of the unified committee after the merger of the NC and the NC-Democratic. He said that the meeting also discussed various issues including the Maoists' agitation, recently formed High-Level Political Mechanism and the ongoing disputes within the students' wing - Nepal Students' Union (NSU).
According to KC, the Maoists' movement would not create an environment of agreement. Likewise, KC said that the senior leaders in the mechanism would finalise the working procedures, terms of reference and code of conduct of the mechanism. The NC would create a separate mechanism to ensure early national conference of the NSU, he added. Meanwhile, Prem Gurung, president, Nepali People's Coordination Committee, UK, today handed over Rs 600,000 as support to construct the NC's party building.
