NC leaders mull August convention

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress Central Working Committee (CWC) today discussed holding the party's 12th General Convention in the last week of August.

The meeting, chaired by acting president Sushil Koirala at the party headquarters in Sanepa, discussed convening the 12th general convention in between August 27 to 30.

According to vice-president Ram Chandra Poudel, the final date of the convention will be announced only after disputes related to some of the party's district committees are resolved. Parallel NC district bodies are still functioning despite the party's unification about two and half years ago.

Party sources said that acting president Koirala and senior leader and former prime minister Sher Bahadur Deuba have claimed the party's leadership after NC president G P Koirala's death.

Sushil Koirala reportedly favours resolving the leadership dispute through discussion. But Sushil Koirala has been leading the party in all meetings with other parties, including the High-Level Political Mechanism.

This is the second CWC meeting after G P Koirala's death on March 20.
