NC leaders reach out to Thakur in bid to find solution to Madhes unrest
BHAKTAPUR: Nepali Congress General Secretary Prakash Man Singh and Spokesperson Dilendra Prasad Badu today had a meeting with Tarai Madhes Democratic Party (TMDP) Chairman Mahantha Thakur.
During the meeting held at Thakur's residence in Sanothimi, leader Singh urged Chairman Thakur to find out solutions to the Tarai unrest soon as the situation of Madhes was turning violent adding that normal life was hard hit and life was complex due to the border blockade.
On the occasion, Chairman Thakur said that the government was not serious to this situation, Singh's personal secretary UP Lamichhane quoted Thakur as saying.
Leader Thakur said, "The situation has become serious. The government is not responsible. It has failed to create environment conducive for talks by withdrawing the decisions made by the previous government including treatment of the injured, compensation to the families of the deceased, among others."
Chairman Thakur told Singh that the NC should be serious to resolve the Madhes issues as well as it should take initiatives for the same.
He said, "Our bottom line is delineation of the federal states. We are saying to move ahead by seeking solution of overall Madhes issues in a package deal. But our demands are neglected."
Chairma Thakur further said that it was the matter of serious concern that the government was indifferent to the demands of Madhes as it has been already 100 days of Madhes agitation.
